National Statistics
This dataset contains population, age, gender and ethnic group information for geographical areas within England. The data are estimates for mid-2005. These statistics are sourced from the Office of National Statistics website using the following tables:
- T 04: England; estimated resident population by single year of age and sex; estimated resident population; Mid-2002 to Mid-2005 Population Estimates; reflecting the revisions due to improved international migration
- T 09p: Quinary age groups and sex for local authorities in the United Kingdom; estimated resident population Mid-2005 Population Estimates; reflecting the revisions due to improved international migration
- Population Estimates by Ethnic Group (experimental)
Important Notes
These statistics are estimates, not actual figures. In particular, note that the estimates for ethnic group is experimental. Users are advised to consult the ONS website before quoting these statistics. The age data (excluding the national level data) has been further estimated by applying the national level percentage breakdowns to the quinary totals to achieve single year figures. For the following geographical areas, the figures for "persons aged 85-89" in the ONS dataset also contain persons aged 90+. Therefore, be aware that the figures in this dataset will be slightly elevated for the following geographical areas for ages 85, 86, 87, 88 and 89.

Also be aware that the name Durham is used for both a county (ONS code 20) and a non-metropolitan district (ONS code 20UE); and the name West Midlands is used for both a region (ONS code F) and a metropolitan county (ONS code 2E).
